Abigail Evans measures blood pressure as part of our community activities.

Healthy Heart Healthy Mind aims to increase awareness that hypertension (high blood pressure) increases the risk of dementia. The main target group for the campaign is adults aged 45 +, however, good heart health is important for everyone!

The primary risk factors for developing dementia include: age, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, obesity, having other cardiovascular diseases and living a sedentary lifestyle. Healthy Heart Healthy Mind aims to implement a range of strategies to inform 45+ year olds of ways to prevent or control their blood pressure.

Healthy Heart Healthy Mind is a Dementia Risk Reduction Project funded by NSW Health as a pilot project in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health Network is pleased to be partnered by the Centre for Health Initiatives at the University of Wollongong as well as many other organisations. Check out the work of some of our key partners below.
